Does dance lie in our human nature?

Updated: Jul 3, 2020

Many see dance as a sport, others as art or a form of social activity. What is dance though? When did it all begin? The truth is, dance has always been part of human life since the beginning of time. The difference between dances in various parts of the world lies barely in the questions “how”? This is exactly what I tell my students when they come and say they can’t dance. Yes you do, we all do. It’s just a matter of the magic word how.

The other day, while watching my kids and my nieces dance in our living room, improvising to music, giving it their all, I just had to capture the moment. They are living proof of the need to move, the need to express our emotions to music. Their movement, their dance is not choreographed and comes straight from their hearts.

“We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams.”― Albert Einstein

I dance for all the above reasons. Dance is my form of mindfulness, my way to relief stress, my way to spend time and socialize. Whatever your reason for dance may be, enjoy and have a great week!
